Spotlight On Corey Pettyjohn
Newest Cup member, Corey Pettyjohn, has kept a relatively low profile since news broke he earned a wildcard entry into this year’s Cup. Pettyjohn's everyday life is anything but low profile, as our Tom Schultz sat down with Pettyjohn for a revealing interview.
Pettyjohn, a Champaign, Illinois native, currently resides in St. Louis, MO. He earns his keep as a pizza delivery boy, allowing him to log over 120 rounds in 2017.
When Shultz asked Pettyjohn what his expectations were for this year’s Cup, Pettyjohn didn't hold back, "I'm expecting to feel physically and emotionally ill on Sunday and Monday. I also expect a mixture of camaraderie, manners, drinking and smoking. Most importantly, I expect to get laid." He pleaded with the camera, "if someone would please put in the leg work for me ahead of time and set me up with some local piece of sliz (no dykes)."
Pettyjohn's closest ally entering the cup is Team Europe member, Steve Holdren. Best friends for 20 years, Pettyohn was not afraid to say he puts the Cup ahead of any friendships. "Here's the thing, Holdren and I go way back, he's been a fantastic friend, but we have had a violent and tumultuous relationship. He taught me everything I know about women, which is probably why I am sad and alone." When asked what would happen if him and Holdren were to face off in an individual matchup with the cup on the line, Pettyjohn didn't mince words; "What would happen? Well, Steve would start off hot and probably try to act all serious, but I'd quickly crack him, gain the lead, and close him out 2 & 1. He wouldn't be able to handle the loss; he'd start drinking again, lose his job and Brittney would leave him. Honestly, it would be a dream come true if it came down to Holdren and I."
Pettyjohn, who felt slated by his number eight pick in the draft, comes in very confident. "I thought people knew who I was, going number eight. It bruised my ego, but only gives me more motivation to come in guns blazing. One thing I don't want to do is let down Captain Halfmann. He's the type of guy you lay it all out on the line for and I fully intend to go 3-0 for my captain. I smoked pot with him once."
In an attempt to lighten up the interview, Schultz asked Pettyjohn who on tour he most emulates. Three golfers immediately came to mind. "Charley Hoffman because he's just so happy to be there. Patrick Reed because he does whatever the hell he wants and is as competitive as they come. Lastly, Justin Thomas because he's 24, 150 lbs., but walks around like he owns the damn place."
Pettyjohn is currently perfecting his game in Californa; where he has pot being delivered to the course.
