2018 Ryder Cup Press Release
The field and dates may have changed, but the anticipation for the 9th annual Ryder Cup definitely hasn't.
Festivities will kick off Thursday, June 28th with opening ceremony and pairings. Play will officially begin, Friday, June 29th and conclude Saturday, June 30th. Format will remain the same; Best Ball & Chapman Alternate on Friday and Individual Matchplay Saturday.
Wisconsin Dells has yet again won host rights, marking it's 4th year in that role. The golfers will compete at Northern Bay Resort & Wild Rock Golf Club.
Dallas Diener and Jon Halfmann have been elected Captains. Both Diener and Halfman will look for their first win as a Captain. Dallas took a loss in 2010 and Halfmann tied in 2011. A coin flip determined that Halfmann has first pick.
Last year we saw a new member added to the prestigious field of golfers and while his performance was less than appealing, cup officials liked the idea of mixing in new golfers. They have decided to make the currently vacant 16th spot (due to Tom Berenz vacancy) a "wildcard" entry. A player will be hand selected each year and play on a one year only contract. "We think it adds another level of excitement to the Cup. A mix of fresh faces and the thrill of cheering on vets is what will take this event to the next level." Cup commissioner Dicki Polzean said. After days of deliberation, the panel has voted on Corey Pettyjohn from Champaign, Illinois. "Corey has put in more rounds on the golf course than all of the field combined. He just returned from stints in Arizona, Las Vegas, Atlanta, California and Washington. We really look for him to shake things up and make the golf more competitive. Not only were we thrilled by his off season golf dedication, we also know he will be very valuable in the night life portion of the Ryder Cup which is why we think he will be a fan favorite. We couldn't be more thrilled with the addition of Pettyjohn to our event."
The Draft is currently underway and will be released soon. Stay Tuned.
